ADIB Appoints New Chief AI Officer as Part of Vision 2035 Framework

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), a prominent Islamic financial institution, has appointed Pedro Uria-Recio as Chief AI Officer, a move that enhances the bank’s leadership and strategic capabilities as it pursues its Vision 2035 framework.

This appointment signifies ADIB’s dedication to integrating Artificial Intelligence throughout the organisation, identifying it as a key driver of transformation under its Vision 2035 strategy.

Uria-Recio’s AI Strategy

In his new role, Uria-Recio will spearhead the next phase of the bank’s AI strategy, focusing on the responsible implementation of AI technologies to elevate customer experiences, bolster risk management, and streamline operational efficiency.

His responsibilities will encompass developing the necessary capabilities, governance, and infrastructure to ensure the scalable and responsible application of AI while supporting ADIB’s aspiration to emerge as the world’s most innovative Islamic bank.

Experience in Southeast Asia

Before joining ADIB, Uria-Recio was the Chief Data & Artificial Intelligence Officer at CIMB Bank in Malaysia, where he led the bank’s AI initiatives and advanced analytics across Southeast Asia.

His prior experience includes senior positions at True Corporation, Axiata Group, and McKinsey & Company, providing strategic advisory on technology and digital transformation.

ADIB’s Group CEO emphasised that Uria-Recio’s appointment underscores the commitment to Vision 2035 and the bank’s ambitious future. He articulated the goal of embedding AI in ways that generate significant value, making banking processes simpler, faster, and more personalised, while enhancing decision-making and operational effectiveness.

ADIB serves over 2.7 million customers and added 125,000 new clients in H1 of FY26.

This latest appointment marks a pivotal step in realising Vision 2035, further enabling ADIB to leverage emerging technologies for improved customer experiences and sustainable growth.
