HSBC has initiated the search for a new chief financial officer following the announcement that Pam Kaur intends to retire in 2027. The bank confirmed that Kaur, who has served as CFO since January 2025, will step down as an executive director prior to the annual general meeting typically held in early May.
The exact date of her departure will be announced later. In the interim, Kaur will take on a consultancy role to assist CEO Georges Elhedery with strategic projects, facilitating a seamless transition.
Having held the CFO position for approximately two years, Kaur has been with HSBC for 13 years, previously serving as the group head of audit and later as chief risk and compliance officer. Her extensive experience, spanning nearly four decades in the banking sector, includes significant roles in audit, operations and compliance at major institutions such as Deutsche Bank, NatWest Group, Lloyds Banking Group and Citigroup.
The bank’s board has commenced the process of identifying suitable candidates for the CFO role, exploring both internal and external options. Kaur’s exit comes at a time when HSBC is positioned strongly from both a financial and strategic standpoint, reflecting her decision that 2027 is an opportune moment for her to seek new leadership opportunities.
The bank’s preparation for this transition signifies its commitment to maintaining robust governance and strategic execution as it moves forward.
