Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is set to upscale its investments in developing a natural gas business in the United States, a move aimed at solidifying it’s LNG specialisation across the full supply vertical whilst capitalising on returns across the U.S. market.
In an interview with Financial Times, Nameer Siddiqui, Chief Investment Officer at XRG, the international investment arm of ADNOC, said the firm is currently assessing 29 potential deals as part of its strategy to establish a vertically integrated global gas business.
XRG Targets Full Gas Value Chain
XRG’s plans encompass the entire gas value chain, including upstream production, pipeline development, processing infrastructure, liquefaction facilities, and downstream re-gasification for end users.
The firm is considering a range of investment structures, including controlled transactions, joint ventures and minority stakes, to meet the increasing global demand for LNG, driven by data centre expansions specifically in the U.S.
XRG is refining its investment strategy, moving away from low-carbon technologies like hydrogen and carbon capture, instead focusing on natural gas production, transport, and utilisation.
U.S. Expansion Gains Momentum
XRG increased its stake in the Rio Grande LNG facility in Texas, acquiring a additional 7.6% equity interests in Trains 4 and 5 of the Rio Grande LNG project from an acquisition vehicle of Global Infrastructure Partners: a part of BlackRock.
The latest deal is read as an extension of its policy on developing a natural gas business across the entire supply chain, specifically supporting U.S. LNG export ambitions, with the U.S. administration pushing energy independence.
XRG has made investments in various assets in Egypt, Mozambique, and Azerbaijan while actively seeking larger opportunities.
