Standard Chartered has positioned itself as the first Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB) to introduce institutional Bitcoin and Ether spot trading in the UAE, reflecting the country’s ambition to become a prominent hub for financial innovation.
The launch, which occurs under the regulatory framework of the Dubai Financial Services Authority, significantly enhances access to digital assets through the Dubai International Financial Centre..
Standard Chartered DIFC
Announced on 3 September 2026, the new offering from Standard Chartered, branded as ‘Standard Chartered DIFC’, expands the bank’s previously established digital asset services in the region.
This capability allows eligible institutional clients to engage in deliverable Bitcoin (BTC/USD) and Ether (ETH/USD) spot trading via the bank’s electronic trading channels, integrating seamlessly with its existing platforms.
Clients can settle trades with any custodian of their choice, including the bank’s own digital asset custody solution, launched in September 2024.
Previous Spot Trading for Crypto in UK
Previously, Standard Chartered had introduced institutional spot trading services for Bitcoin and Ether through its UK branch in July 2025, marking a pioneering step for G-SIBs in the space.
The UAE initiative builds on this success, leveraging the bank’s comprehensive digital asset strategy, which encompasses custody, trading, and tokenisation capabilities via its Corporate and Investment Bank.
Furthermore, its ventures ecosystem, including Zodia Markets and Libeara, is designed to address the evolving needs of institutional clients through regulated frameworks and services.
