Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait has announced the appointment of Giel-Jan M. Van Der Tol as its new Group CEO. He replaces Abdulla Al Sumait, who was previously acting CEO and will remain as Deputy Group CEO.
Van Der Tol brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as CEO and Managing Director of Emirates NBD Bank Egypt.
Van Der Tol’s extensive career includes 21 years at ABN AMRO Bank in the Netherlands, where he held several executive positions. His career highlights include serving as Global Head HR of the Global Markets Division in Amsterdam/London and COO of Saudi Hollandi Bank in Riyadh.
He also served as CEO and Managing Director of SHB and held key positions at Tier One Capital and Dubai Bank in the UAE.
Following the merger of Dubai Bank with Emirates NBD Bank in 2012, Van Der Tol was a member of the Group Executive Committee, taking roles such as Global Head Wholesale Banking and CEO and Managing Director of Emirates NBD Bank Egypt.
