Barclays has announced the appointment of Khaled El Dabag and Walid Mezher as co-CEOs for their operations in the Middle East.
Both executives will be stationed in Dubai and reporting directly to Stephen Dainton, BBPLC President and Head of Investment Bank Management.
Khaled El Dabag has been with the company since 2014. Climbing the ranks, he now finds himself as the CEO and Head of Investment Banking for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
His counterpart, Walid Mezher, has worked at the bank since 2017 and has been handling Sales and Origination activities across the MENA region.
“As the Middle East continues to play a bigger role in shaping global capital markets and attracting more wealth, the region is also becoming increasingly important to Barclays’ overall success and to the execution of our three-year plan,” said Dainton. “Bringing together senior leaders from our Investment Banking and Global Markets businesses will help further drive efficiency and collaboration in delivering one bank for our local and global clients.”
Bringing El Dabag and Mezher together as co-CEOs is seen as a strategic move to combine expertise from investment banking and global markets. This leadership change comes as the bank looks to sharpen its focus in an increasingly crucial market.
