Citi has appointed Tahany Taher to lead its UAE operations for Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS) and Corporate, Commercial & Public Sector Sales (CCPS). She reports to Vivek Vaidyanathan, head of these units for the broader Middle East and Pakistan. In this post, Taher will direct the firm’s TTS strategy across the UAE, focusing on business expansion, client interaction, risk oversight, and regulatory coordination.
Taher’s appointment makes her the first Emirati woman to occupy this position. Her banking career spans nearly two decades across corporate and commercial banking, private and wealth banking, and operations. Before this role, she served as Head of CCB (Corporate & Commercial Banking) for Citi UAE from September 2024, where she managed mid-sized corporate clients and drove strategy across Citi’s suite of services.
Vaidyanathan emphasised the UAE’s importance to Citi’s regional growth and said Taher’s experience would strengthen the business’s local standing. Taher said she intended to leverage Citi’s global network to support clients and advance the bank’s strategy in the UAE.
A 2023 appointment to lead Citi Commercial Bank UAE positioned Taher as the first Emirati woman in that role. She joined Citi in December 2017, later becoming Head of Digital for the Middle East and Africa in March 2022.
Taher holds a master’s degree from the University of Missouri and a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from Bombay University. She also holds International Advisory and Capital Markets qualifications from the UK’s Chartered Institute of Bankers.
