The Directorate General of Customs in Oman and Dubai Customs announced the launch of a temporary “green corridor” to enhance the movement of diverted cargo shipments between Dubai and ports in Oman via land routes.

The initiative aims to sustain trade flows and alleviate pressure on regional supply chains, demonstrating robust cooperation between the two customs authorities.

How Oman–Dubai Cargo Corridor Works

Under this framework, containers initially destined for Jebel Ali Port but arriving at Omani ports will be expedited to Dubai through bonded land transport after adhering to simplified customs procedures in Oman. The arrangement is applicable to most categories of goods, with specific items excluded as detailed in an annex to the customs notice.

Supporting Diverted Shipments

This move is particularly relevant for shipments rerouted from global origins to Omani ports due to the exceptional conditions currently impacting logistics and shipping routes.

Once customs clearance is completed in Oman, the containers will be directly transported by bonded trucks to Jebel Ali Port, ensuring minimal disruption to the supply chain while maintaining regulatory compliance.

The initiative also encompasses certain air cargo shipments that have been redirected through Oman, facilitating their onward transfer under agreed simplified protocols.

Mitigating Bottlenecks

Officials from both sides indicated that this measure is designed to enhance trade fluidity and bolster supply chain resilience amidst ongoing regional logistical challenges.

By introducing expedited processing and coordinated customs procedures, the aim is to mitigate bottlenecks and provide greater certainty for businesses and logistics providers reliant on these pathways.

This green corridor highlights Oman’s growing strategic role in supporting regional supply chains, particularly when disruptions affect maritime routes elsewhere, as both the UAE and Oman cooperate on large scale infrastructure projects such as the Hafeet Railway.
