The Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) will implement an extension of daily trading hours by one hour, effective 1 June, in a bid to enhance market activity and liquidity.

Trading will now conclude at 3pm local time rather than 2pm.

The schedule will include a pre-opening session from 9:30 to 10am, followed by continuous trading from 10am to 2:45pm. A pre-closing session will occur from 2:45 to 2:55pm, with trading at closing prices from 2:55 until the new closing time.

This change is anticipated to foster increased liquidity and trading volumes, as per insights from market officials.

Since 26 February, the bourse’s main index has risen by 3.5%, underscoring the market’s resilience amid geopolitical tensions, including the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.

Year-to-date, the benchmark has achieved an impressive 26% uptick.

In a related context, Boursa Kuwait extended its trading hours by 30 minutes in October last year to stimulate market participation and liquidity.

The chairman of the Egyptian Stock Exchange revealed that over half of the listed companies on the bourse endorsed a proposal to extend trading hours. This would adjust the Egyptian trading session from 9:30am to 3pm, compared to the current schedule of 10am to 2:30pm.
