Bahrain-based Investcorp has made a strategic investment in Berger Financial Group, a U.S. Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm, as part of its broader strategy to expand into the North American wealth management sector.

This initiative aligns with Investcorp’s goal to strengthen its presence in the Americas, specifically North America following a significant multi-generational wealth transfer and sustained migration towards fee-based fiduciary advisory.

Berger Opportunities

According to a managing director in Investcorp’s North America private equity division, Berger represents an ideal investment due to its unique, fee-based wealth management model. The firm is well-positioned to capitalise on the favourable conditions currently prevailing in the North American registered investment advisors sector.

Berger Financial is “exactly the kind of platform we look to back: a differentiated, fee-based wealth management business”, according to Vitali Bourchtein, the Investcorp Managing Director in North America’s private equity team.

AUM Exceeds $3B

While specific financial figures remain undisclosed, industry sources indicate that Investcorp has acquired a majority stake in Berger and will secure a position on the firm’s board.

Berger Financial Group offers a range of services including financial and retirement planning, tax planning, and portfolio management to over 3,800 clients from nine offices, with assets under management exceeding $3B.

Recent Acquisitions

This investment follows Investcorp’s recent acquisition of Guardian Fire Services, a U.S. firm specialising in fire and life-safety services. With more than four decades of experience in North American mid-market businesses, Investcorp has completed over 79 transactions, deploying upwards of $25B since its inception.

Last month, the firm also reached an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Smart Managed Solutions, a UK-based facilities management company.
