Abbas Basrai, Partner, Head of Financial Services and Financial Risk Management (FRM) at KPMG Lower Gulf, was revealed as a member of the illustrious jury panel judging the inaugural edition of the Finance Middle East Awards set to take place on May 15.
About Basrai
Basrai leads financial services (FS) at KPMG Lower Gulf and the Financial Risk Management (FRM) practice. With more than 20 years of experience in Financial Service Assurance and Advisory in the UK and the Middle East, he is an energetic finance professional with excellent skills in strategic financial management, auditing, risk management, business partnership, and commercial acumen.
Basrai has strong leadership qualities, people management skills, and technical knowledge. He has extensive experience working with banks (both conventional and Islamic), sovereign wealth funds, investment and asset management companies and private equity funds.
He has a particular interest and experience in governance, risk, regulatory compliance, accounting, and control aspects of banking operations (from risk assessments to full reviews of front office supervision, product control, treasury, risk and operations functions), including extensive work with regard to derivatives and structured transactions. Basrai is a qualified chartered accountant (ICAEW) and holds an Islamic finance qualification from the Securities and Investment Institute in the UK.
Finance Middle East Awards
The inaugural Finance Middle East Awards will debut on May 15. It will gather over 200 leading banking and finance executives to celebrate outstanding achievements within the DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre) and the wider GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region.
An independent panel of expert judges will decide on the winners in each of the 15 categories. The winning nominees will be announced during a gala dinner celebration at a luxurious venue in May.
Submitting nominations is free; executives have until March 29 to enter the awards. Shortlisted nominees will be announced in April, and the winners will be crowned on May 15.
