Saudi Engines Manufacturing Company (Makeen), backed by Saudi Aramco, is partnering with UK-based Rolls-Royce to manufacture high-speed engines in Saudi Arabia in the kingdom’s first individual licence agreement of its kind.

The partnership will target marine and naval applications, including high-speed ferries, coast guard vessels and patrol boats, Rolls-Royce said.

Saudi Investment Accelerates

The agreement comes as Saudi Arabia accelerates investment in industrial development, infrastructure and energy projects.

The deal will combine Rolls-Royce’s “mtu technology” for high-speed engines and advanced propulsion systems with local manufacturing capabilities, supporting the development of a domestic industrial base with advanced technology.

What is the JV, Makeen?

Makeen is a joint venture between Saudi Aramco, South Korea’s Hyundai and Riyadh-based Dussur.

Established in 2021, the company manufactures, builds, sells and services marine and land-based engines, including high-speed engines.

The partnership also supports Saudi Arabia’s broader industrial localisation drive.
