MGX was identified as a notable investor in Anthropic’s recent $65B Series H funding round citing the firm’s official statement.
The latest round elevated Anthropic’s valuation to $965B. Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital, with additional contributions from significant entities such as AMP PBC, Baillie Gifford, Blackstone and Temasek, participated in the round.
The round also comprises $15B from previously committed investments by hyperscalers, including $5B from Amazon. Strategic partners, including Micron, Samsung and SK hynix, joined to support technologies critical to memory, storage and logic chip supply.
New funding will facilitate advanced safety and interpretability research while expanding compute capacity to meet the rising demand for Anthropic’s product: Claude.
Anthropic reported that Claude’s adoption is rapidly growing among global enterprise customers, with revenues exceeding $47B earlier this month.
MGX’s Participation in AI Ecosystem
Recent agreements with Amazon, Google and Broadcom aim to enhance compute capacity by up to five gigawatts, ensuring robust support for their services.
MGX’s involvement in Series H follows its participation in Anthropic’s previous $30B Series G funding round, led by GIC and Coatue and raised Anthropic’s valuation from $380B in February.
This significant increase in valuation reflects the surging demand for AI solutions driven by enterprise adoption.
Targeted Investment
The group has strategically concentrated its investments in AI-related firms and infrastructure.
Earlier engagements include MGX’s participation in xAI’s $20B Series E funding round, and a transaction with BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners to acquire Aligned Data Centres, valued at approximately $40B.
Aligned Data Centres operates over five gigawatts of capacity across its data campuses, catering to hyperscalers and enterprise customers, primarily in the US and Latin America.
MGX’s collaboration with Silver Lake on acquiring a majority stake in Altera underscores its strategy to invest in specialised computing technologies like FPGAs, essential for AI and high-performance applications.
