The UAE and Ireland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Joint Economic Commission to enhance economic and technical cooperation across multiple sectors.
The agreement was signed by Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Niamh Smyth, Ireland’s Minister for Trade Promotion, AI, and Digital Transformation. The commission will serve as a platform for dialogue and collaboration in trade and investment, renewable energy, digital economy, infrastructure development, supply chain resilience, food security, and healthcare technology.
The Joint Economic Commission is expected to facilitate business delegation visits, exchange information on economic developments, and promote a favourable investment climate. It will also encourage participation in international exhibitions and conferences to further bilateral economic cooperation.
In 2024, non-oil trade between the UAE and Ireland reached $1.1 billion, up from $694 million in 2019, indicating a strengthening economic relationship.
Minister Smyth noted that the commission would provide a new forum for collaboration in aviation, education, renewable energy, and healthcare sectors, aiming to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two nations.
