The Abu Dhabi SME Champions Programme, led by the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development, has seen a remarkable increase in collaboration between SMEs and major public and private institutions.
By 2024, the initiative achieved a total of 652 deals valued at Dh 672 million across sectors like IT, consultancy, advertising, and event management.
Launched in 2023 by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, the programme aims to enhance procurement opportunities for SMEs with leading private companies and government entities. This initiative saw the number of registered companies rise from 835 in 2023 to 2,235 in 2024, with strategic partnerships reaching 20.
From its inception, the programme has been dedicated to supporting SMEs in supply chain opportunities by providing a strong platform for business growth. It has opened new avenues for these companies to contribute significantly to GDP growth, diversify economic resources, and foster innovation, aligning with the UAE’s vision for a sustainable and diverse economy.
The initiative educates SMEs on the advantages of building strategic alliances with both government and private entities. It also focuses on skill development and strengthening partnership pathways.
Notably, micro-enterprises now comprise over half of the registered companies, with approximately 20% eligible for deals with leading institutions.
The programme has conducted 13 training sessions in collaboration with nine partners, focusing on skill development to meet market demands. This milestone supports the UAE’s aspirations to become a leading knowledge-based and competitive economy.
Key participants in the programme include the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, AD Ports Group, Etihad Airways, and Mubadala, among others.
