UAE and Bahrain discuss strengthening ties in Abu Dhabi

The leaders of the UAE and Bahrain recently sat down together in Abu Dhabi, focusing on deepening the ties between their two nations. The meeting, held between His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and the King of Bahrain His Highness Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, highlighted the strong relationship the countries share. They discussed ways to enhance their collaboration for mutual benefits, aiming for ongoing development and prosperity.

Several prominent figures from the UAE and Bahrain were also present, including HH Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan from the UAE, and HE Lieutenant General Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and HH Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa from Bahrain. Their presence underscored the importance both nations place on their enduring bilateral relationship.

With the UAE accounting for a significant share of Bahrain’s foreign direct investments in 2023, it’s evident that these connections are vital to both nations’ economic strategies.

In recent years, Bahrain has seen significant inflows of foreign direct investment, totalling $6.8 billion in 2023, partly due to its strong ties with the UAE. This partnership contributes greatly to Bahrain’s economic landscape, showcasing the cooperative spirit between the two nations.

The gathering between the UAE and Bahrain highlighted future strategies to maximise mutually beneficial opportunities, aiming to create long-term socio-economic impacts across different sectors.

Bahrain and the UAE were the highest scoring GCC countries in the 2024 Global Economic Diversification Index. The UAE achieved the highest EDI scores of the GCC with 95.7 in 2022. Bahrain followed by scoring 93.7.
