Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala Investment Company, has invested $35 million in Paragraf, a UK technology firm specialising in graphene-based electronic components, according to a recent announcement. This contribution forms part of Paragraf’s $55 million Series C funding round.

In exchange for its investment, Mubadala secured a 12.8% shareholding in the company, as confirmed by a UK government filing.

Paragraf plans to utilise the capital to scale its manufacturing operations and increase production output, thereby supporting the wider adoption of its graphene-enabled technologies.

The deal passed through a prolonged national security review under the UK’s National Security and Investment Act. CEO Simon Thomas said Paragraf came close to running out of cash during the six-month approval process. He warned that delays in such reviews could threaten the funding timelines and viability of UK tech firms.

This move aligns with a growing global need to diversify technology supply chains and strengthen advanced materials manufacturing outside traditional centres. Paragraf is also planning to establish operations in the US, China and the Middle East to manage geopolitical risks and broaden its global reach.
