In the UAE’s dynamic job market, where economic growth is defying the global trend, a profound transformation is occurring behind the scenes. Recruiters are increasingly harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionise the hiring process.

The advantages of integrating AI into recruitment are myriad. AI-driven screening tools enhance efficiency by swiftly analysing vast quantities of résumés. AI-powered recruiting tools can also employ machine learning algorithms to scour online platforms and social media, uncovering potential candidates overlooked by traditional methods. There is a sizeable opportunity for automated processes, yielding insight into the success of past hires, expediting onboarding, and, crucially, minimising unconscious human biases in the hiring process by utilising AI rather than human evaluation in pre-employment assessments.

Within the financial services industry, we are considering how we can leverage cutting-edge tools and partner with external suppliers to support the automation of our workflows, all with the ultimate aim of enhancing the candidate journey.

Human interaction

The important point here is that recruitment is a very personal and emotive industry. AI is proving instrumental in the initial recruitment stages, but human interaction remains indispensable.

People connect with people and have an intuitive human understanding that machines have yet to replicate. Nonetheless, HR professionals can use AI, like any tool, to enhance their role. The reactor has a huge opportunity to use AI to develop a deeper understanding of employee needs and ultimately create personalised experiences.

The use of AI in recruitment is familiar, particularly around streamlining processes with the array of platforms already available. But its use in recruitment is booming. HR professionals are embracing the ever-evolving capabilities of bespoke chatbots and advanced algorithms to enhance efficiency and speed.

This step-change not only improves the recruitment process but also transforms HR into a strategic player. Day by day, we see how enabling artificial intelligence has meant that HR is now on par with other business functions when it comes to data-driven decision-making.

We are fortunate in the UAE that legal frameworks are being established for more flexible employment. There is also investment in digital infrastructure, skill development, and education. The resultant integration of AI, machine learning, and other technologies in these areas is reshaping HR procedures and will make the UAE an even more attractive destination for global talent.

Wherever one is in the world, the future of HR will involve fusing technology and human-centric approaches. Advanced analytics, predictive analytics, blockchain, virtual reality, and other technologies will empower HR professionals to make even better data-driven decisions, revolutionising talent acquisition and creating flexible work environments.

Building trust

Despite the advantages technology brings, challenges persist. Job seekers have expressed concern about the impersonal nature of recruitment and the over-reliance on front-end AI systems. As a response, businesses must favour a more applicant-centric approach, including more nuanced uses of tech and innovative formats like pre-recorded video CVs.

Despite the commonly held view that AI will diminish human jobs, I am extremely positive about the outlook for the job market in the UAE amid the increased investment in artificial intelligence. Researchers at McKinsey forecast that the MENA region’s AI market will surge from $500 million in 2020 to an astounding $8.4 billion by 2026. Job roles in any area AI touches will be in ever higher demand.

Amid the growth of jobs in the UAE and the nurturing of innovative technology, I remain confident that HR functions will play a pivotal role in shaping a new era of work excellence—one defined by helping companies find the right people faster and more efficiently and providing greater job satisfaction.
