HSBC has announced a series of changes to the bank’s senior leadership team, which will be effective January 1, 2025.
Selim Kervanci is appointed as Middle East CEO, subject to regulatory approval. Selim will report to Surendra Rosha and David Liao, Co-CEOs Asia and the Middle East.
Kervanci is currently CEO of HSBC Turkiye. He joined HSBC in 1996 and has since has worked in regional roles for a number of years, including being a member of the MENAT Executive Committee for more than a decade. Over the past 28 years, he has built wide-ranging connections with clients, officials, and regulators across the Middle East.
In other leadership changes, Richard Blackburn is appointed Interim Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officer and will become a member of the Group Operating Committee. He previously held the role of Global Head of Traded and Treasury Risk Management & Global Analytics.
Celine Herweijer will step down as Group Chief Sustainability Officer to pursue new opportunities. As a result, Julian Wentzel, currently Head of Global Banking, MENAT, has been appointed Interim Group Chief Sustainability Officer.
Georges Elhedery, HSBC Group Chief Executive Officer, said: “I would like to congratulate Richard, Julian and Selim on their new roles, and thank Celine for her significant contribution to our net zero ambitions since 2021.”
Earlier this year, HSBC announced a major overhaul of its operations, which saw the merging of its commercial and investment banking operations, the split of its business across East and West geographies and historic appointments to its leadership team.
