The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has issued Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid commemorative coins. The special releases are part of the “Zayed and Rashid” campaign and honour the UAE’s founding leaders, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
The Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid commemorative coins are available in gold and silver. The gold version is exclusively available for purchase at CBUAE’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The gold coin weighs 40 grams and has a diameter of 40 mm. The front side of the coin depicts Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid. The reverse has the UAE national emblem surrounded by “Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates” written in Arabic and English.
The silver version weighs 50 grams with a 50 mm diameter. It features the same depiction of the two UAE leaders on one side and the national emblem surrounded by “Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates” written in both Arabic and English, as well as “Commemorative Coin” in Arabic.

HE Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, said: “We proudly announce the issuance of these commemorative coins, which embody the meanings of loyalty and belonging to the national legacy left by the founding leaders, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, may their souls rest in peace.”
He continued, “This issuance marks the ‘Zayed and Rashid’ campaign, aiming to solidify the values of unity and development upon which our nation was founded, and to highlight inspiring milestones in their journeys. We reaffirm our commitment to immortalising our national history and fostering it in the hearts of future generations.”
Besides the Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid commemorative coins, CBUAE has previously issued special coins for Expo 2020, and Declaration of November 30 as Commemoration Day (Martyrs Day) in 2016, and the 2009 Formula One – Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
In March 2025, the UAE launched a new AED 100 polymer banknote. In the same month, a new official dirham symbol was announced.
