Dubai launches strategic plan for AI-driven Data Centre Economy

The strategy is expected to enhance Dubai’s readiness for next-generation technologies.

Digital Dubai, in collaboration with government and private sector partners, has begun implementing the Strategic Vision for the Data Centre Economy, approved by the Executive Council. This initiative is part of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to increase the productivity of Dubai’s economy by 50% through digital innovation.

A study by Digital Dubai identified opportunities for coordination between stakeholders to attract and establish AI-powered data centres, positioning Dubai as a key hub for such investments. The adoption of this vision is projected to create over Dh14.3 billion in added value by 2028 and generate new job opportunities in the digital economy.

The strategy is expected to enhance Dubai’s readiness for next-generation technologies like Web 3.0, the Metaverse, Smart Cities and the Internet of Things. It will also strengthen partnerships across sectors, particularly in sustainable AI.

The digital economy in Dubai is an essential pillar of Dubai’s digital strategy, which aims to increase its contribution to the emirate’s overall economy by $100 billion.

Key initiatives include the development of high-performance computing, reliance on renewable energy, and improved government coordination in areas like planning, land and energy. Digital Dubai is working with entities such as the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and Dubai Municipality to ensure the city’s preparedness for the future economy.

Digital Dubai’s Director-General, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, highlighted Dubai’s competitive advantage as a global destination for sustainable data centres, while other officials underscored the strategic importance of AI-driven data centres in maintaining Dubai’s leadership in the global digital economy.
