Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence firm G42 has established a new subsidiary headquartered in London to accelerate its expansion into the UK and Europe, with a focus on delivering AI infrastructure and services to both governments and the private sector.

The new unit, G42 Europe & UK, will work with public authorities and industries across the continent to deploy sovereign AI systems, support digital transformation, and localise AI capabilities in sectors such as finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and energy. The launch comes as European governments and enterprises increase spending on AI infrastructure amid growing policy focus on data sovereignty and strategic technology independence.

Omar Mir, an international board member at World Wide Technology, and Marty Edelman, Group General Counsel at G42, will co-chair the subsidiary. Mir has led technology growth initiatives across 5G, edge computing, and AI in multiple regions, including Europe, the US, and the Middle East. Edelman has overseen G42’s legal and compliance strategy during its global expansion.

“Our goal is to harness G42’s proven AI expertise and localise it for European and UK businesses,” said Mir, citing ambitions to partner with stakeholders to build competitive and resilient AI ecosystems. Edelman added that the London base would improve G42’s ability to operate under European regulatory frameworks and meet market demand for AI-led transformation.

The move follows a series of recent developments by G42 in the region. In the past six months, the group has announced high-performance data centre and computing projects in France and Italy and has held talks with several national governments to explore the implementation of AI policy, according to people familiar with the matter.

The new entity will leverage G42’s existing global network of supercomputing nodes and data infrastructure to offer services spanning advisory, AI model development, infrastructure buildout, and long-term managed operations. It will also engage with European regulators and regional institutions to align with digital sovereignty initiatives and upcoming EU AI governance frameworks.

G42’s push into Europe comes as governments and corporations race to secure domestic AI capacity. In April, France announced EUR 500 million in funding for AI supercomputers, while Germany is allocating the federal budget to co-finance private AI clusters. The European Commission’s AI Act, passed this year, adds further incentive for firms to establish on-the-ground operations that comply with stricter transparency and risk classification requirements.

Founded in Abu Dhabi, G42 has rapidly grown into one of the region’s most prominent AI groups, with business lines spanning genomics, healthcare, cloud computing, and public-sector partnerships. Its global strategy includes joint ventures, cloud partnerships, and investments in compute infrastructure outside the Gulf, particularly in Asia and Europe. The company’s European expansion marks its latest effort to position itself as a strategic AI infrastructure provider beyond the Middle East.
