Foreign direct investment into Qatar witnessed a substantial increase, climbing to QAR157 billion (equivalent $43.3B) by the end of Q3 in FY25.

This represents a 7% uptick rise on the Q2 FY25 according to the National Planning Council.

Sector-Specific Insights

Over 95% of total FDI was concentrated in five key economic activities. Among these, mining and quarrying emerged as the leading sector, attracting 44% of the total investment.

The breakdown of FDI is as follows:

  • Mining and Quarrying: 44%
  • Financial and Insurance Activities: 32%
  • Manufacturing: 15%
  • Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services: 5%
  • Public Administration: 2%

Driving Forces Behind FDI Growth

The report highlighted that the growth in foreign direct investment is a result of a stable business environment fostered by transparent economic policies and comprehensive development plans.

Outward Investment Trends

Quarterly outward FDI also saw a 3% uptick by the end of Q3. This uptick signifies the expanding footprint of Qatari investments on the global stage.

The distribution of outward FDI mirrored that of inward investments, with over 90% concentrated in five specific sectors:

  • Financial and Insurance Activities: 33%
  • Mining and Quarrying: 27%
  • Information and Communication: 12%
  • Transportation and Storage: 11%
  • Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation: 7%

Resilience Amidst Global Challenges

Recently, a team from the IMF conducted meetings with Qatari officials in Doha as part of their annual assessment of the nation’s economy. The findings indicated that Qatar’s economic framework is substantially resilient, even when confronted with a volatile geostrategic environment.

This resilience is pivotal in maintaining the country’s strong position in the global investment landscape.
