Meta hired Dina Powell McCormick, a former banker and Middle East dealmaking veteran, to lead efforts on cross-industry partnerships and strategic capital initiatives last week.

The company announced the appointment this week, highlighting Powell McCormick’s “experience at the highest levels of global finance, combined with her deep relationships around the world.”

Egyptian-born and Arabic-speaking, Powell McCormick has a long track record in Middle East finance and diplomacy. She will focus on partnering with governments and sovereign wealth funds to build, deploy, invest in, and finance Meta’s AI and infrastructure projects.

“She will drive an effort to build new strategic capital partnerships and find innovative ways to expand our long-term investment capacity,” Meta said.

Her appointment comes amid rising Gulf interest in AI and digital infrastructure. In recent years, U.S. tech giants including Microsoft, OpenAI, and Amazon have secured major investment deals with Gulf-based sovereign wealth funds, often to fund AI data centres and cloud infrastructure.

Powell McCormick previously spent 16 years at Goldman Sachs, where she led the Global Sovereign Investment Banking business. She has also held roles in the U.S. Department of State and served as an economic adviser in the Trump administration, focusing on Middle East economic engagement.

She has been linked to high-profile US-Gulf initiatives, including meetings with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and coordination of multi-billion-dollar investment and defence deals. Powell McCormick is married to U.S. Senator Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania.
