ADGM and ADGM Academy Team Up with TII, Hub71 and ASPIRE to Launch UAE’s First Quantum-Secure Communications Testbed

ADGM, ADGM Academy, the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), Hub71 and ASPIRE have launched the UAE’s first testbed for quantum‑secure communications in ADGM. The test network uses quantum key distribution (QKD) technology in a commercial setting to enable tamper‑proof, forward‑secure data transfers.

TII, the applied research arm of the Advanced Technology Research Council, deployed its QKD solution across three sites within ADGM. The network operates as a “living lab” to connect stakeholders to an operational quantum‑safe communications system, validate real‑world use cases and raise awareness of the technology’s potential.

ASPIRE, the innovation acceleration arm of ATRC, facilitated the collaboration between research and commercial entities. The initiative aims to translate advanced quantum research into practical applications.

ADGM described the launch as a step toward reinforcing cybersecurity in its digital infrastructure, especially for digital asset firms operating within the financial centre. The facility enables those firms to build next‑generation infrastructure with enhanced resilience.

The ADGM Communications Authority installed QKD devices at three distinct locations within its jurisdiction, generating encryption keys for a secure network layer that guards against future cryptographic attacks, including those from potential quantum computing threats.

This testbed places Abu Dhabi among a small group of global financial hubs deploying operational QKD networks. It complements wider UAE efforts to build quantum communications infrastructure—including TII’s collaborations on satellite‑based QKD and plans for a national quantum computer.

By combining early access to QKD, stakeholder engagement and a live commercial environment, the project sets the groundwork for expanding quantum-secure systems across critical sectors ahead of broader deployment.
