The Dubai Police, represented by the General Department of Criminal Investigation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Citi UAE during GITEX 2024.
The partnership aims to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the two parties, foster partnership and enhance security operations. The two organisations agreed to collaborating in researching and anticipating the future of economically-motivated crimes.
The agreement was signed by Brigadier Hareb Al Shamsi, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, and Shamsa Al-Falasi, Chief Executive Officer of Citibank N.A., UAE Onshore Branch, in the presence of Brigadier Mohammed Aqeel, Deputy Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation for Research and Investigation Affairs; Mr. Mustafa Alblooshi, Regional Head of Citi’s Security and Investigative Services for Middle East and Africa; and several officers.
“This collaboration is crucial in light of global economic, criminal, and technological changes, which necessitate proactive measures that can significantly and effectively contribute to the advancement of the security system,” said Al Shami.
“The General Department of Criminal Investigation is developing strategic plans that respond to global changes, looking ahead to the future of security work and the various types of crimes, including economic crimes. These crimes are becoming increasingly challenging due to evolving fraudulent techniques, as highlighted by global studies, especially as countries and individuals rely more on technology in their professional and personal lives. Hence, we are actively adapting to these trends to ensure that Dubai remains the safest city in the world.”
Meanwhile, Shamsa Al-Falasi stated that this agreement enhances the ongoing partnership between Citi UAE and the Dubai Police in preventing fraud, as well as economic and financial crimes. “This collaboration is a significant step forward in our shared commitment to strengthening initiatives, projects, and strategies that uphold financial integrity and protect both local and global financial systems”, Al-Falasi added.
Under the terms of the agreement, both parties agreed to collaborate on developing the platform of the Economic Crimes Operations Centre under the supervision of Dubai Police.
They will also work together to enhance the operations room of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, exchange information, and implement joint security and community initiatives aimed at raising public awareness of economic and financial crimes. Furthermore, they will share knowledge and expertise to enhance the skills of personnel on both sides, along with several other provisions.
