Morgan Stanley has appointed Abdulrahman Al-Abdulla as the head of its business operations in Qatar, according to a Reuters report. Al-Abdulla will oversee the Wall Street bank’s activities in Qatar, including banking, capital markets and trading.

A spokesperson for Morgan Stanley confirmed the appointment, stating that Al-Abdulla will report to Abdulaziz Alajaji, co-head of the bank’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) operations. Al-Abdulla’s role will focus on enhancing the bank’s presence and offerings in the Gulf state, which is expected to see increased deal activity in the near future.

Al-Abdulla joins Morgan Stanley from Aventicum Capital, a UBS-owned asset management firm, where he worked as a portfolio manager specializing in equities and fixed income within the MENA region.

Qatar, one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporters, is actively diversifying its economy to reduce reliance on energy revenues. This economic shift and efforts to attract foreign investment have increased the region’s appeal to Western financial institutions, including Morgan Stanley.

Morgan Stanley has maintained an office in Qatar since 2006, alongside its other regional offices in Dubai, Riyadh, and Abu Dhabi, the latter of which was established earlier this year.
