In the first 11 days of March 2025, the UAE exported 68,560.29 metric tons of aluminium to the US, a significant increase from 16,124.88 metric tons in March 2024, according to US Department of Commerce data.

This surge occurred as US buyers accelerated purchases before the 25% tariff on steel and aluminium imports, effective March 12, 2025, under President Donald Trump’s directive, Reuters reported.

Canada, the largest supplier of aluminium to the US, accounting for approximately 70% of imports in 2024, announced retaliatory tariffs on US goods in response to the US measures.

Benchmark aluminium prices on the London Metal Exchange have risen by 5% this year to $2,675 per metric ton, though they have retreated from an eight-month peak of $2,736 reached in February.

The US tariffs aim to bolster domestic production but have led to increased premiums in the US physical market, which have surged nearly 60% since the start of 2025.

The global aluminium market continues to monitor these developments, assessing the impact of tariffs and shifting trade dynamics on supply chains and pricing.
