Mubadala Investment Company PJSC has broken ground on the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project on Abu Dhabi’s Al Maryah Island. The development, officially launched by Deputy Group CEO Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi and UAE Investments CEO Dr Bakheet Al Katheeri, will feature a 30‑metre luminous sphere set in the bay, surrounded by over 1,000 AI‑driven water jets reaching heights of up to 75 metres, all choreographed to music by composer Ramin Djawadi and designed by WET.
The scheme also includes an extension of the sea boardwalk, shaded outdoor cooling systems, and new food, beverage and event venues, intended to strengthen Al Maryah Island’s appeal to visitors and support urban activation. Dr Al Katheeri described the initiative as “a strategic investment in the future of Al Maryah Island,” expected to enhance public life, tourism and cultural programming.
According to Arabian Business, the project aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader goals of sustainable urban development and competitiveness. It complements recent developments such as One Maryah Place, a twin‑tower office scheme by Mubadala and Aldar.
Construction is positioned as a key step in delivering mixed-use leisure, cultural and commercial facilities under Mubadala’s vision for a future-ready city.
The project arrives amid a wave of high-profile infrastructure and lifestyle launches in Abu Dhabi, including plans for a Disney theme park and Bulgari-branded resort developments.
Work has officially commenced, though no timeline for completion was provided. The waterfront enhancement is likely to become a prominent feature in Abu Dhabi’s tourism landscape, supporting both cultural objectives and economic diversification ambitions.
