ZATCA reminds businesses to file excise tax returns by January 15

Late filings will incur a 5% fine for every 30 days the tax remains unpaid after the deadline.

The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has urged businesses subject to excise tax to file their November and December 2024 tax returns by January 15, 2025.

ZATCA emphasised that late filings will incur a 5% fine for every 30 days the tax remains unpaid after the deadline.

The excise tax applies to products considered harmful to public health or the environment, such as soft drinks, sweetened beverages, energy drinks, and tobacco products.

The excise tax aims to deter the consumption of harmful goods and bolster public health initiatives.
