Around 37% of German millionaires are contemplating emigration following the federal election, with concerns over immigration policies, taxation, and the rise of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) influencing their considerations, according to a recent survey by Arton Capital.
The survey indicates that immigration (47%) and the ascent of the AfD (42%) are the primary factors driving this sentiment. Notably, 30% of respondents cite potential tax increases as a significant concern. The AfD’s recent electoral success, securing 20.8% of the vote, reflects growing political polarisation in Germany.
In response to domestic uncertainties, 88% of surveyed millionaires express interest in “Golden Visa” programs, which offer residency or citizenship through investment. Canada emerges as the top destination, favoured by 29% of respondents, followed by Australia (22%) and the United States (16%).
Armand Arton, CEO of Arton Capital, observes, “Wealthy Germans are clearly feeling fatigued by the state of politics at home and are looking elsewhere for a ‘plan B’.”
This trend underscores the potential impact of political dynamics on capital migration, highlighting the need for policymakers to address the concerns of high-net-worth individuals to mitigate potential economic implications.
