The UAE is shaking up its visa system to attract more genuine visitors and cut down on people overstaying their welcome. This comes in the form of a minimum salary rule for residents wanting to sponsor visitors, which travel industry folks are calling a smart move.
Just this week, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship laid out clear income brackets for those thinking about inviting their family or mates over. If you bring home a monthly 4,000 Dirhams, you can sponsor close family. Double that, and you’re good to bring over distant cousins or similar connections. But if your pockets are filled with 15 grand or more a month, even your pals can come over for a spell.
Sameer Bagul from Cleartrip Arabia is on board with this new setup. He sees it as a step toward making the visa filing process less like pulling teeth. Now, instead of depending on travel agents who might turn you down because they’re worried you’ll go rogue, people can roll up to typing centres or Amer centres and deal with immigration directly.
This isn’t just about rolling out the red carpet to families, either. It’s about tightening up the whole system. Those who go through the correct steps and show they’ve got the means are less likely to play hooky and disappear into the dunes.
Adil Tanriverdi from Tripventura Tourism believes the straightforward process is key to encouraging visitors to play by the rules. With increased transparency and smoother paths to legal residency, the UAE is making it clear that playing by the rules isn’t just the easy path — it’s the best one.
With a more regulated influx of visitors, businesses can breathe a bit easier, knowing their workforce will remain stable and above-board. This marks a significant shift towards the UAE establishing itself not just as a stopover holiday destination, but a place to build a future.
