Abu Dhabi Finance Week started with a bang today as Binance Holdings won three separate licenses from Abu Dhabi’s financial regulator.

Binance gave the crypto exchange giant one of its most comprehensive regulatory footholds.

The approvals, issued during ADFW, cover Binance’s regulated exchange clearing infrastructure and broker-dealer arm. Together, they permit the firm to run a trading venue, handle custody and settlement.

Binance’s Ties to G42 Ecosystem

Back in March, Binance received a US$2bn investment from AI investor – MGX – which is chaired by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Binance received the investment in stable coins with a minority stake in the crypto exchange.

Deleveraging Risk: Confidence in Crypto

The latest announcement of regulatory approval is read as a confirmation of Sheikh Al-Nahyan’s confidence in the market despite recent selloffs.

Analysts warn that the sell-off although volatile in the short-term is necessary to deleverage risk. Binance co-CEO, Richard Teng, called the recent volatility “in line” with most asset classes, in an interview with Reuters.

New Headquarters Location

A location for its global headquarters remains in question but Teng is reportedly considering the UAE as a feasible option.

Teng previously served as an executive at ADGM: the capital’s international financial free zone.

Abu Dhabi sits atop of US$2 trillion sovereign wealth fortune. The Abu Dhabi Investment Council tripled the size of its position in a Bitcoin ETF during Q3 before the recent selloff of crypto.

PR Reboot in Motion

Binance Holdings continues to revamp its operations as Binance founder – Zhao Changpeng – stepped down as CEO (2023) after pleading guilty to breaking U.S. AML laws.

President Donald Trump later pardoned him.
