When Nader Nassar launched Hlthera, it wasn’t just about building another health app. The platform grew out of a deeply personal experience and a conviction that healthcare should feel less fragmented and more connected. Backed by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund (MBRIF) and shaped by Nassar’s background in digital transformation and strategy consulting, Hlthera is positioning itself as an AI-powered social healthcare ecosystem where people, healers, and health hubs come together.
In this conversation with Finance Middle East, Nassar reflects on the journey from personal inspiration to early growth, the role of the UAE in shaping Hlthera’s path, and what it takes to build a startup that is both ambitious and human.
What drove you to join the startup world?
I’ve always believed that technology, when used with purpose, can change lives. That belief became deeply personal when my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. I saw firsthand how fragmented and transactional healthcare can feel—at a time when compassion and connection matter most.
As an engineer, I’ve always been drawn to solving problems. But this wasn’t just a problem to solve—it was a calling. Hlthera was born from a conviction that healthcare should feel human. It should be accessible, compassionate, connected—and even rewarding, where every act of self-care matters and people feel celebrated for choosing wellness.
That’s what pulled me into the startup world. Hlthera isn’t just a company. It’s where engineering meets empathy—a movement to make healthcare more human, for everyone.
Why did you choose the Middle East as the place to start/expand the business?
The Middle East is where ambition meets possibility. It’s a region that doesn’t just adopt innovation—it accelerates it. Nowhere is that clearer than in the UAE, a nation that has become a global hub for healthcare and digital transformation.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum once said, “In the race for excellence, there is no finish line.” That vision defines this country—always striving for better, always setting new global benchmarks in innovation and technology.
For me, it’s deeply personal. I was raised here. The UAE instilled in me ambition, resilience, and the belief that nothing is impossible. Building Hlthera here feels natural—a continuation of the values this country has always inspired in me.
The region’s vision aligns with our own: making healthcare not only more advanced, but more human. On Hlthera, people are not “patients,” but individuals on a journey of wellness. Healers—from doctors to wellness practitioners—are recognised for the role they play in restoring strength and balance. And health centres are reimagined as health hubs—vibrant ecosystems where trust, innovation, and compassion converge to create a more connected, human experience of care.
Starting Hlthera in the UAE means more than launching a company. It means building in a nation where innovation and humanity walk side by side—the very principles our platform is built on.
How would you describe the region’s startup scene in three words?
Ambitious. Visionary. Human.
Ambitious—because the region dares to dream big, building solutions that don’t just compete locally, but stand on the world stage.
Visionary—because leadership here isn’t focused only on the present, but on shaping the future. It’s about setting bold goals and creating ecosystems that empower innovation at scale.
Human—because at the heart of every great idea in this region is people. Startups here don’t just chase growth; they focus on impact, on making lives better, and on creating lasting value for communities.
Is there something that has surprised you in your journey?
What has surprised me most is how deeply people connect with Hlthera’s mission. The moment they see an AI-powered social healthcare ecosystem that brings people, healers, and health centres together—the reaction is immediate.
It revealed something important. People aren’t only asking for better systems. They’re asking for trust. For belonging. For the assurance that their health truly matters.
That’s when I realised Hlthera isn’t just about redefining healthcare. It’s about innovating health, shaping the future, and transforming lives. Turning care from something distant and transactional into something social, human, and rewarding.

What are (in your view) the keys to approaching investors successfully?
Credibility. Conviction.
Investors need to see that you understand the problem better than anyone else, that your solution is built on a strong foundation, and that you have the conviction to carry it forward.
Yes, the numbers matter. But what truly moves investors is the story behind them—the human impact.
When you can show both the scale of the opportunity and the difference it makes in people’s lives, that’s when investors don’t just invest in your company. They invest in your mission.
What was the most challenging part of raising funding and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge wasn’t raising funds—it was translating Hlthera’s vision in a way that’s simple, clear, and powerful. Hlthera isn’t just another health app—it’s an AI-powered social healthcare ecosystem connecting people, healers, and health hubs. Explaining that scope to investors wasn’t easy, but it forced us to sharpen our story—and that made us stronger.
That’s where MBRIF truly made a difference. They gave us credibility. Through mentors, networks, and seasoned entrepreneurs, they helped us refine our pitch, amplify our mission, and connect with people who saw Hlthera not only as scalable but as something meaningful, built to transform healthcare into a social, human, and rewarding experience.
Government-backed initiatives like MBRIF are vital to the region’s startup ecosystem. They give startups like ours the tools to expand, from navigating regulations to entering new markets.
And that’s the power of this region: ambition meets possibility. Bold ideas are given the support to scale. With platforms like MBRIF, visionary startups aren’t just funded, they’re empowered to shape the future.
What is the best piece of financial advice you have received?
Build for longevity, not speed.
In healthcare, growth isn’t just about numbers — it’s about trust. A quick win means little if it doesn’t last. What matters is building a model that’s sustainable, human, and worthy of people’s confidence.
Every decision is guided by a simple question: Will this create lasting value for people’s lives?
That perspective has kept us grounded. It ensures that we invest in what truly matters—not chasing short-term gains, but building something that endures.
What has been your biggest success and your biggest failure?
My biggest success has been shaping Hlthera into what it is today—a platform built on a clear mission, trusted advisors, and the potential to redefine healthcare for millions. What makes this success meaningful isn’t just the technology or the partnerships, but the fact that we’ve proven a simple truth: vision, when paired with resilience, can become reality.
My biggest failure was in the early days, when we moved too quickly without building the right foundation. We were eager, but we underestimated how critical timing, structure, and clarity are to scaling something that truly lasts. That failure was humbling—but it became a turning point. It forced us to slow down, rebuild with stronger foundations, and sharpen both our mission and our model.
Out of that challenge came clarity. Hlthera emerged stronger, more purposeful, and more human—a platform not just designed to grow, but designed to endure and to inspire healthier living at scale.
What is the best quality a leader can have?
Clarity.
A leader’s role is to cut through the noise when things feel uncertain, to provide direction when challenges arise, and to remind everyone of the bigger purpose. With clarity comes trust — and with trust comes unity. That’s what inspires people to move forward together.
Where would you like to be in five years’ time?
In five years, I see Hlthera as the world’s leading social healthcare platform—uniting people, healers, and health centres across the globe. But more than scale, it’s about impact.
I want Hlthera to touch millions of lives across the world—where people feel seen, supported, and rewarded for choosing wellness. A platform that proves innovation and compassion can live side by side, and in doing so, redefines what healthcare means for generations to come.
