The Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi (DGE) has formalized a multi-year agreement with Microsoft and Core42, a subsidiary of G42, to establish a sovereign cloud computing system aimed at enhancing government service efficiency and innovation. This collaboration seeks to process over 11 million daily digital interactions among Abu Dhabi government entities, citizens, residents, and businesses.

The initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s ambition to become the world’s first fully AI-native government by 2027, focusing on automating all government processes. An investment of Dh13 billion ($3.54 billion) is earmarked for digital infrastructure under the Abu Dhabi Government Digital Strategy 2025-2027. The strategy includes deploying over 200 AI-driven solutions to improve public service delivery, boost operational productivity, and promote environmental sustainability.

This agreement builds upon previous collaborations between Microsoft and G42. In April 2024, Microsoft invested $1.5 billion in G42 to accelerate AI development and global expansion. Additionally, in September 2023, both companies announced plans to jointly offer sovereign cloud services in the UAE, expanding Microsoft’s data centre infrastructure in the country.
