Lebanon’s cabinet approved a licence for Starlink, the satellite internet firm connected to SpaceX, to offer internet services across the country.

The licence follows roughly six months of negotiations between Starlink and Lebanese authorities. Starlink has formed a local company in Lebanon to operate under the licence.
Services will initially be available only to companies, with fees starting at $100 per month.

Until now, internet access in Lebanon has been provided exclusively by state-owned operators and their affiliates. These operators lobbied against granting a licence to Starlink.

In June, Elon Musk expressed interest in Lebanon’s telecommunications and internet sectors during a phone call with President Joseph Aoun.
