Abu Dhabi-based MGX, in partnership with France’s Mistral AI and Bpifrance, is expanding its UAE AI campus in France as MGX Vice Chairman and the French President formalise the deal, boosting France’s AI infrastructure capacity.
The campus, situated near Paris, was initially planned to operate at 1.4 gigawatts capacity; however, the recent agreement suggests that this could increase to 3 gigawatts of compute capacity nationwide, significantly enhancing France’s AI infrastructure.
Campus AI is a joint venture between Bpifrance, the French public investment bank; Mistral AI, a French artificial intelligence company and U.S. chip maker Nvidia, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said in a statement.
Khaldoon Al Mubarak, MGX’s vice chairman, also serves as the managing director and group chief executive of Mubadala and is a member of the Abu Dhabi Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council.
The addition of a second AI campus site will effectively double the initial investment from the consortium and its partners. This strategic expansion is positioned as a critical step towards establishing a leading pan-European network of AI facilities, extending the developmental programme beyond the flagship Fouju campus in Seine-et-Marne.
Current designs for the AI campus include innovative features such as water-free cooling systems and energy-efficient architecture, reflecting a commitment to mitigating the environmental impact associated with data centres and AI technologies globally.
MGX emphasised that this collaboration represents a significant advancement in bolstering France’s AI capabilities and fostering a competitive European AI ecosystem.
