Bahrain reports 5% growth in non-oil imports for July 2024

The value of Bahrain’s non-oil imports increased by 5% to BD 464 million in July 2024, up from BD 441 million in July 2023, according to the July 2024 Foreign Trade report. The top 10 countries accounted for 70% of the total import value.

China led the imports with BD 73 million (16%), followed by Australia with BD 65 million (14%) and Brazil with BD 37 million (8%). The top imported product was Other Aluminum Oxide, valued at BD 66 million (14%), followed by Non-Agglomerated Iron Ores and Concentrates at BD 42 million (9%), and Private Cars at BD 14 million (3%).

On the export front, the total value of non-oil exports (National Origin) rose by 4% to BD 337 million in July 2024, compared to BD 323 million in July 2023. The top 10 countries accounted for 68% of the total export value. Saudi Arabia was the largest destination for Bahrain’s non-oil exports, with BD 61 million (18%), followed by the US at BD 28 million (8%), and the UAE at BD 25 million (7%).

Agglomerated Iron Ores and Concentrates Alloyed topped the list of exported products, with a value of BD 83 million (25%). Unwrought Aluminum Alloys followed at BD 77 million (23%), and Unwrought Aluminum not Alloyed was third at BD 18 million (5%).

The total value of non-oil re-exports saw a 22% increase, reaching BD 61 million in July 2024, compared to BD 50 million in July 2023. The top 10 countries accounted for 84% of the re-exported value. The UAE led re-exports with BD 21 million (34%), followed by Saudi Arabia with BD 18 million (30%) and Germany with BD 3 million (5%).

Private Cars were the top re-exported product, valued at BD 9 million (15%), followed by Gold Ingots at BD 6 million (10%) and Smartphones at BD 3 million (5%).

The trade balance, representing the difference between exports and imports, recorded a deficit of BD 66 million in July 2024, slightly improving from a deficit of BD 68 million in July 2023.
