UAE launches startup exchange programme with Japan

The programme targets technology-driven startups seeking to expand internationally and collaborate with foreign innovation ecosystems.

The UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) has launched the Startup Global Exchange Programme 2025, a cross-border initiative to link UAE-based and international startups with overseas markets, investors, and innovation ecosystems.

Announced during the Make it in the Emirates 2025 forum, the programme will begin with a pilot in partnership with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The first phase will be held in September 2025 at Expo Osaka, followed by a reciprocal exchange in October when Japanese startups will be hosted in the UAE.

Each exchange cycle will involve 10 to 12 startups. Selected companies will undergo a structured process involving international placement, mentorship, and direct engagement with global customers, incubators, and enterprise leaders. The programme targets technology-driven startups seeking to expand internationally and collaborate with foreign innovation ecosystems.

The initiative forms part of the UAE’s National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology and is designed to promote knowledge transfer and international cooperation in industrial innovation. MoIAT said it is working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expand the programme to additional markets.
