Bahrain’s non-oil trade declines in August 2024, imports and exports drop

Bahrain’s non-oil imports dropped by 7% in August, reaching BHD 494 million compared to BHD 534 million in August 2023. The top 10 countries accounted for 66% of total imports, with China leading at BHD 66 million (13%), followed by Australia at BHD 52 million (11%) and the USA at BHD 39 million (8%). The top imported products were Non-Agglomerated Iron Ores and Concentrates (BHD 59 million), Other Aluminum Oxide (BHD 57 million), and Parts for Aircraft Engines (BHD 21 million).

Non-oil exports (National Origin) also decreased by 8%, totalling BHD 298 million compared to BHD 324 million in August 2023. Saudi Arabia ranked first for exports at BHD 66 million (22%), followed by the USA at BHD 57 million (19%) and the UAE at BHD 27 million (9%). The top exported products were Unwrought Aluminum Alloys (BHD 73 million), Unwrought Aluminum Not Alloyed (BHD 36 million), and Agglomerated Iron Ores and Concentrates (BHD 31 million).

Re-exports declined by 14%, reaching BHD 60 million compared to BHD 70 million in August 2023. The UAE was the top destination for re-exports at BHD 31 million (52%), followed by Saudi Arabia at BHD 11 million (18%) and Luxembourg at BHD 3 million (5%). The leading re-exported products were Smartphones (BHD 12 million), Gold Ingots (BHD 4 million), and Four Wheel Drive vehicles (BHD 3 million).

Bahrain’s trade deficit for August 2024 stood at BHD 136 million, slightly improving from BHD 139 million in August 2023.
